AMD today announced the 2009 AMD Mainstream Notebook Platform and Second Generation AMD Ultrathin Platform. <\/p>\n
With a specific focus on High Definition (HD) graphics, the new platforms and updated processing capabilities has enabled performance increases of up to 42% from AMD’s 2008 model in entertainment applications such as Quick Time and Microsoft Expression Encoder.<\/p>\n
In addition the platforms also feature support for DirectX 10.1 and reportedly provide an additional hour of battery life when compared to previous versions.<\/p>\n
“The Second Generation AMD Ultrathin Platform for notebooks visibly outperforms the competition’s ultrathin platform on popular entertainment applications such as Windows MovieMaker (up to 43%), productivity applications (up to 17%) and gaming or 3-D applications (up to 77%),” says AMD.<\/p>\n
During testing the Second Generation Ultra Thin AMD platform demonstrated an active battery life of almost two and a half hours and a resting battery life of over five and a half hours.<\/p>\n
Notebooks featuring the AMD Mainstream Notebook Platform began shipping in Asus and Acer notebooks in early September.<\/p>\n
Fifty additional models featuring the platforms are due to be released worldwide in the coming months to coincide with the release of Windows 7 on October 22nd.<\/p>\n
