{"id":95726,"date":"2014-01-29T09:27:27","date_gmt":"2014-01-29T07:27:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=95726"},"modified":"2014-01-29T12:20:48","modified_gmt":"2014-01-29T10:20:48","slug":"new-call-termination-cuts-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/telecoms\/95726-new-call-termination-cuts-announced.html","title":{"rendered":"New call termination cuts announced"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (<a title=\"Icasa\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/462443-Independent-Communications-Authority-of-South-Africa-%28ICASA%29\">Icasa<\/a>) announced the new regulated rates for call termination on Wednesday, 29 January 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Call termination rates are the charges which one operator charges another operator to terminate a call on its network.<\/p>\n<p>The current termination rate for mobile calls is R0.40 per minute, while fixed calls are charged between R0.19 and R0.12 per minute.<\/p>\n<p>Icasa\u2019s new rates give smaller operators such as <a title=\"Cell C\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/213919-Cell-C\">Cell C<\/a> and <a title=\"Telkom Mobile\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/515780-Telkom-Mobile\">Telkom Mobile<\/a> a higher rate.\u00a0The level of asymmetry in the rates between large and small operators proposed by Icasa caused a big stir last year, with large operators decrying it and small operators applauding it.<\/p>\n<p>The table below summarises the call termination rates that are set to kick in on 1 March every year until 2017:<\/p>\n<div class=\"table-responsive\"><table class=\"table\" style=\"background-color: #f4f4f4;
