{"id":96221,"date":"2014-02-05T15:17:55","date_gmt":"2014-02-05T13:17:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=96221"},"modified":"2014-02-06T09:19:53","modified_gmt":"2014-02-06T07:19:53","slug":"sabc-lacks-thinking-skills-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/broadcasting\/96221-sabc-lacks-thinking-skills-report.html","title":{"rendered":"SABC lacks thinking skills: report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A skills audit by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) has found that executives and senior managers at the <a title=\"SABC\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/313653-South-African-Broadcasting-Corporation-%28SABC%29\">SABC<\/a> do not meet the minimum strategic thinking skills, The Star reported on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The (PwC) report, which was presented to Parliament&#8217;s communication oversight committee on Tuesday, also found that 56 percent of the broadcaster&#8217;s management were unable to demonstrate adequate problem solving levels and make critical decisions.<\/p>\n<p>The report stated that the SABC also lacked digital migration skills.<\/p>\n<p>Despite this, SABC board member Bongani Khumalo told Parliament the board was fully functional and senior managers were men and women of high integrity who were &#8220;effectively supervised,&#8221; the newspaper reported.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, <a title=\"DA\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/431011-DA-Democratic-Alliance\">DA<\/a> MP <a title=\"Marian Shinn\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/463739-Marian-Shinn\">Marian Shinn<\/a> called on Communication Minister <a title=\"Yunus Carrim\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/543603-Yunus-Carrim\">Yunus Carrim<\/a> to take drastic steps to address the failures at the SABC and to consider implementing a management rescue plan.<\/p>\n<p>The independent audit report also revealed the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>60% of executive and senior managers do not meet the minimum strategic thinking skills for executives;<\/li>\n<li>56% were unable to demonstrate adequate levels in solving problems and making decisions;<\/li>\n<li>15% demonstrated only marginal competence in strategic thinking;
