{"id":96519,"date":"2014-02-11T16:50:46","date_gmt":"2014-02-11T14:50:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=96519"},"modified":"2014-02-11T23:01:00","modified_gmt":"2014-02-11T21:01:00","slug":"sa-internet-pirate-case-delayed-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/internet\/96519-sa-internet-pirate-case-delayed-report.html","title":{"rendered":"SA Internet pirate case delayed: report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The case of one Mr. M Norton, the first person arrested on charges relating to online piracy in South Africa, has been transferred to the Special Commercial Crimes Court in Belville, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.htxt.co.za\/2014\/02\/11\/south-africas-first-online-piracy-case-delayed\/\" target=\"_blank\">Htxt is reporting<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to the report, the next hearing is scheduled for 26 February 2014.<\/p>\n<p>MyBroadband <a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/internet\/93539-first-for-sa-internet-pirate-arrested-in-cape-town.html\">first reported on Norton\u2019s arrest<\/a> in December 2013, when the CEO of the Southern African Federation Against Copyright Theft (<a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/387163-SAFACT-Southern-African-Federation-Against-Copyright-Theft\">Safact<\/a>), <a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/581771-Corne-Guldenpfennig\">Corn\u00e9 Guldenpfennig<\/a>, told MyBroadband that this would be the first case of its sort in South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Guldenpfennig said that they would bring charges against Norton in terms of the Counterfeit Goods Act and article 27 of the Copyright Act for uploading a high-profile South African film via The Pirate Bay.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/78358058?title=0&amp;byline=0&amp;portrait=0\" height=\"337\" width=\"600\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Although the film Norton stands accused of distributing has not been officially named, MyBroadband has good reason to believe that <a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/internet\/93979-internet-piracy-sa-court-case-which-movie-was-uploaded.html\">the pirated film in question is <em>Four Corners<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Four Corners is described as a \u201ccoming-of-age gang film set in the Cape Flats\u201d.
