A new website calling itself Telkom Mobile Plaza is using Telkom’s logo and name to try and catch unsuspecting Internet users with its eCommerce scheme.  The website hosted at www.telkomrsa.page.tl<\/a> is advertising digital cameras, DJ equipment and a variety of other electronic equipment at very low prices.<\/p>\n

The website proudly states:  “Telkom is Africa’s largest integrated communications company, providing integrated communications solutions to an entire range of customers. Telkom’s passion is to become world-class. In this section you will find detailed company information, investment opportunities and an insight into Telkom’s community upliftment programs.”<\/p>\n

“Telkom is specialized in the trading of GSM mobile phones, mobile accessories and consumer electronics. We can also supply related electronic products, such as flash memory cards, Bluetooth products and USB flash disks. The major brands we can supply are Nokia,Apple iPhone, Motorola, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Siemens, Panasonic, LG, Sony Playstation1,2,3, Dell, Sony, HP, IBM Laptop computers, all brands of Plasma TV.”<\/p>\n

According to Moneyweb “victims are told to deposit money into a Nedbank account in the name of “Melody BN” before the goods are shipped. The money is paid but no goods ever arrive.”  Moneyweb also alerted both Telkom and Nedbank about the scam.<\/p>\n

Telkom’s Senior Specialist for media relations Ajith Bridgraj confirmed that the website,  www.telkomrsa.page.tl<\/a>, is not a legitimate Telkom website and the use of the Telkom logo has not been permitted by the company.   “Telkom’s Asset and Revenue Protection Services (TARPS) is currently investigating the matter,” said Bridgraj.
 
“Telkom urges customers to maintain vigilance at all times when dealing with service offerings of any nature. The onus rests with customers to determine the legitimacy of the entities through whom they may undertake to conduct their business.”<\/p>\n
