{"id":97025,"date":"2014-02-19T11:26:14","date_gmt":"2014-02-19T09:26:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=97025"},"modified":"2014-02-19T12:27:36","modified_gmt":"2014-02-19T10:27:36","slug":"analysts-cell-c-prediction-dead-wrong","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/business\/97025-analysts-cell-c-prediction-dead-wrong.html","title":{"rendered":"Analyst&#8217;s Cell C prediction dead wrong"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On 18 August 2013, <a title=\"Paul Theron\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/553901-Paul-Theron\">Paul Theron<\/a>, CEO of <a title=\"Vestact Limited\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/553903-Vestact-Limited\">Vestact Limited<\/a>, said that <a title=\"Cell C dead in six months\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/cellular\/84719-cell-c-will-be-dead-within-6-months-analyst.html\"><strong>Cell C has decimated its own business case<\/strong><\/a> and predicted that the company will be dead within six months. This was not his finest moment.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on CNBC last year, Theron said that <a title=\"Cell C\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/213919-Cell-C\">Cell C<\/a> is messing up the mobile market in South Africa for everyone, including themselves, with their aggressive pricing strategy.<\/p>\n<p>Theron said that Cell C is \u201cbasically burning the furniture over there to stay in business,\u201d and had to raise more money to remain afloat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCell C will be dead within 6 months. Listen to me now \u2013 they are under such pressure that they basically decimated their own business chasing market share,\u201d said Theron.<\/p>\n<p>Theron added that if <a title=\"Alan Knott-Craig\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/224891-Alan-Knott-Craig-%28Senior%29\">Alan Knott-Craig<\/a> is still the CEO of Cell C in six months\u2019 time he will be very surprised.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Six months later<\/h3>\n<p>Six months on, and Cell C is alive and well. The recently announced Call Termination Regulations, which proposes significant asymmetry, is also set to give Cell C a massive financial boost.<\/p>\n<p>The company moved into its new offices in Midrand last year, which also features a walk-in customer care centre and a large warehouse.<\/p>\n<p>Cell C acting CEO <a title=\"Jose Dos Santos\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/472450-Jose-Dos-Santos\">Jose Dos Santos<\/a> said that they are pleased with the company\u2019s growth over the last 18 months, and have a good business plan to take it forward.<\/p>\n<p>The Cell C board also seems happy with the company. \u201cWhile I cannot comment on behalf of the board the feedback that I have received from them over the last few months is that they are fully supportive and happy with Cell C&#8217;s progress,\u201d said Dos Santos.<\/p>\n<p>Theron was asked for comment about his incorrect prediction that Cell C will be dead within six months, but he did not respond by the time of publication.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">More on Cell C<\/h3>\n<p><a title=\"Cell C will be dead within 6 months: analyst\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/cellular\/84719-cell-c-will-be-dead-within-6-months-analyst.html\"><strong>Cell C will be dead within 6 months: analyst<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Cell C receives massive cash boost\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/cellular\/82297-cell-c-receives-massive-cash-boost.html\"><strong>Cell C receives massive cash boost<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In August 2013, well known analyst Paul Theron predicted that Cell C will be dead within six months.
