{"id":97441,"date":"2014-02-24T15:45:37","date_gmt":"2014-02-24T13:45:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=97441"},"modified":"2014-02-24T16:25:32","modified_gmt":"2014-02-24T14:25:32","slug":"telkom-moves-on-vod-plans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/internet\/97441-telkom-moves-on-vod-plans.html","title":{"rendered":"Telkom moves on VOD plans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"Telkom\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/227037-Telkom\">Telkom<\/a> has extended an invitation to industry to bid for the provisioning of Video on Demand (VoD) services.<\/p>\n<p>In January,\u00a0Telkom\u00a0CEO\u00a0<a title=\"Sipho Maseko\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/338963-Sipho-Maseko\">Sipho Maseko<\/a>\u00a0said that, by 2015, the company aims to provide uncapped internet, voice services and video-on-demand to its customers under one product, at a flat rate.<\/p>\n<p>It was reported that Maseko held talks with a host of large media companies &#8211; including <a title=\"Comcast\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/413716-Comcast\">Comcast<\/a>, Bertelsmann, <a title=\"Naspers\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/367138-Naspers\">Naspers<\/a>, and <a title=\"Netflix\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/368394-Netflix\">Netflix<\/a> &#8211; to carry content on Telkom\u2019s fixed-line networks as part of an effort to boost revenue.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday (24\u00a0February), MD of consumer services and retail marketing, <a title=\"Manelisa Mavuso\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/287381-Manelisa-Mavuso\">Manelisa Mavuso<\/a>, said: \u201cWe have been progressing well with our efforts to deliver the ultimate connected home experience to South Africans.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We believe that content has a major role to play in truly differentiating the Telkom offer and we are steaming ahead to deliver this to our customers as soon as possible.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt therefore gives me great pleasure to invite relevant stakeholders to submit their proposals through Telkom\u2019s tender process as we seek to find the best service provider to partner with.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A tender notice was published on 20 February on www.telkom.co.za.
