{"id":9776,"date":"2009-09-28T16:09:00","date_gmt":"2009-09-28T14:09:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2009-09-28T16:09:00","modified_gmt":"2009-09-28T14:09:00","slug":"computer-wizard-caught-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/technology\/9776-computer-wizard-caught-again.html","title":{"rendered":"Computer wizard caught, again"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Msomi, charged with 83 charges of fraud involving R20 million and six charges under the Electronic and Telecommunications Act, escaped when he was escorted from the same court on December 9.<\/p>\n<p>He was recaptured while trying to board a bus to Gauteng.<\/p>\n<p>With his ankles shackled, Msomi appeared on Monday with the two suspects who allegedly let him escape &#8212; Inspector Makosonkhe Derrick Ndlela, 41, and Constable Sihle Njila, 32.<\/p>\n<p>Ndlela and Njila face charges of aiding Msomi to escape and defeating the ends of justice.<\/p>\n<p>These charges were also added to the list of charges Msomi faces.<\/p>\n<p>Ndlela and Njila are out on bail of R3000 each.<\/p>\n<p>Msomi allegedly imported spy software in the form of computer systems which monitors and records all computer records.<\/p>\n<p>He allegedly captured passwords and diverted payment intended for others into accounts which he created.<\/p>\n<p>Msomi said he wished to apply for bail but prosecutor Pranisha Kassool said he was previously refused bail when he applied for it in the in the same court.<\/p>\n<p>Magistrate Divesh Mootheram said it was unlikely that he would be granted bail in view of the previous refusal and the new escaping charge.<\/p>\n<p>Msomi said he did not need legal representation to be appointed for him but would instruct his own attorney.<\/p>\n<p>The case was postponed to October 30.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php?t=194377\"><strong>Computer security &amp; crime<\/strong><\/a> &#8211; comments and views<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Computer wizard Sipho Sthembiso Msomi&#039;s nine months of freedom ended with his recapture in Port Elizabeth on Friday, the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate&#039;s Court heard on Monday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[17],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-9776","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-technology"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/9776"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=9776"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/9776\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=9776"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=9776"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=9776"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
