The judge in Oscar Pistorius\u2019s murder trial ordered that the live feed of proceedings be cut because of the graphic testimony of the pathologist about to give evidence on his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp\u2019s injuries.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere shall be no live broadcast now\u2026 that applies to Twitter,\u201d said Judge Thokozile Masipa.<\/p>\n
Professor Gert Saayman, the pathologist due to testify on Reeva Steenkamp\u2019s fatal gunshot wounds objected to his evidence being broadcast live..<\/p>\n
\u201cLet me apologise for the inconvenience I may have caused,\u201d said Saayman.<\/p>\n
He said he is bound by certain ethical rules and there might be statutory limits to his conduct. He said he would not be comfortable with live unfiltered streaming of his evidence.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think that the very personal nature of findings that are made at an autopsy examination as well as the very graphic details\u2026 have the potential to compromise the dignity of the deceased and\u2026 I believe it is our duty to preserve the dignity of the deceased,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
It was \u201calmost inevitable\u201d that there would be an infringement on the rights of remaining relatives and friends of deceased.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it goes against the good morals of society to make information of the nature available to vulnerable and unsuspecting people such as children if they are not timeously informed,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn time, the information could be made available, but it would be paraphrased or filtered and people could choose to disengage.\u201d<\/p>\n
The court has already heard graphic detail, which has left Pistorius tearful and hunching into himself in the dock, his hands over his ears.<\/p>\n
Some of Steenkamp\u2019s friends were in the court, as were Pistorius\u2019s family.<\/p>\n
Last week, the court heard from Barry Roux, SC, for Pistorius, that Steenkamp\u2019s injuries were so severe that it could not have been her screaming for help, after witnesses testified hearing a woman screaming on the morning she was killed.<\/p>\n
He said the shot to her head left her with \u201csevere\u201d brain damage and no cognitive function.<\/p>\n
The State seeks to have Judge Thokozile Masipa and assessors Janet Henzen-du Toit and Themba Mazibuko agree with its allegation that she was killed in an argument in an act of pre-meditated murder.<\/p>\n
Last week, radiologist Johan Stipp, a neighbour who was one of the first to arrive after the shooting, said Steenkamp\u2019s eyes were cloudy, a sign that life was fading from her body.<\/p>\n
Stipp gave a graphic account of how Steenkamp\u2019s brain matter was stuck to her hair.<\/p>\n
Pistorius is charged with murdering Steenkamp on February 14 2013 at his home in Silver Woods, Pretoria.<\/p>\n
He has pleaded not guilty and has said he thought there was an intruder in the toilet cubicle when he fired four shots, killing her.<\/p>\n
An order by Judge Thokozile Masipa to prohibit the media from tweeting information about Reeva Steenkamp’s post mortem results sounds unenforceable, law expert Pierre de Vos said on Monday.<\/p>\n
“I haven’t heard the whole order, but from what I have heard it sounds confusing,” De Vos said.<\/p>\n
“It sounds unenforceable. I wasn’t there to hear her [the judge’s] exact words, but in other court cases, people and journalists use Twitter so I don’t know why they doing this in this case, what makes this case so special.”<\/p>\n

“There shall be no live broadcast now…. That [also] applies to Twitter,” she said.<\/p>\n
Pistorius is charged with the premeditated murder of Steenkamp, and with contravening the Firearms Act.<\/p>\n
He has pleaded not guilty to all the charges, and contends he mistook Steenkamp for an intruder when he shot her.<\/p>\n
