An update for Windows<\/a> 8.1 will be available to users from Tuesday, 8 April 2014, the head of Microsoft<\/a>\u2019s operating system group, Joe Belfiore<\/a>, said on Wednesday, 2 April 2014.<\/p>\n

Delivering a keynote presentation at the Microsoft Build conference, Belfiore demonstrated a few tweaks to the Windows 8.1 user experience for mouse & keyboard users.<\/p>\n

With the new Windows 8.1 update, users will be able to access a context menu within the Windows 8 start screen by right clicking.<\/p>\n

Rather than bringing up a bar at the bottom of the screen, this context menu returns the form and function of the right-click menu from earlier versions of Windows.<\/p>\n

Belfiore also showed that Windows 8.1 users will also now be able to switch between \u201cWin32\u201d desktop applications and \u201cmodern UI\u201d application downloaded from the Windows Store from the taskbar.<\/p>\n

Users will also be able to bring their mouse pointer to the top of the screen while a modern app is open to bring up a title bar that contains the familiar minimise and close buttons.<\/p>\n

When the mouse pointer is brought to the bottom of the screen while a \u201cmodern UI\u201d app is open, the taskbar pops up and users can switch to different applications that way.<\/p>\n

The update to Windows 8.1 will be made available to the general public on Tuesday, 8 April 2014, Belfiore said.<\/p>\n
