500mm is normally too short for birds.

Lovely lens for other wildlife though

I'd flog it straight away and recoup some of the costs, the 2x tc is pretty much useless, why would you attach a tub of vaseline to your super duper 70-200mm. My experience with the same setup is you'll try once or twice and then never again, the results with the tc attached are too much of a downgrade.

No, I wouldn't go quite that far. It has its uses you just have to know its limitations

I use mine all the time.

Ha! Not what I was planning to use the lens on first. But mommy and daughter baked cupcakes for junior's 2nd birthday tomorrow and she asked me to take a snap so that she can share with a friend and daughter's teacher at school. I obliged of course.

Forgot how awesome this glass is. Probably some of the cleanest bokeh.

Less said about the icing job mommy did, the better for my physical well being

It also converts into a convenient monopod which I'll probably use more than in it's tripod form. The ball head has an adjustable horizontal panning action that will probably be useful for video.

Had a little oopsie last night when I removed the body from the lens and forgot to lock the ball. Split like a sausage on the braai...

Wondering if a cycle shop might stock what I need to make a more permanent repair?

From what I can see the tripod shaft split open underneath the head.

Now held together by cable ties (and duct tape/carbon fibre tape?)

Yeah - longitudinal split - about 5cm long. Currently bound with duct tape and cable ties. Seems to be holding for now.

Perhaps try something like this? Spotted it a while ago when started to look at camping gear.

Reckon it is a better option than the much used tri-stool most carry around?

For interest sake? You prefer a roaming or stationary bib?

Yes, because it's usually for my laptop, not my bum

Isn't it roving and static? I usually get the former.

Same diffs Haven't been for a while anyway but I remember at a few of the big games some people could get mightily upset about not getting (or who got) the roving bibs.
