Howdy Linux Cowboys. Did you notice there is no version of Handbreak for Ubuntu 10.10?
Well, there is one, but it is apparently very unstable and might break things according to the interwebz.
I vote for Ponder to be our guinea pig :-)

You mean Handbrake? Well it's just a shell for x.264, you can run x.264 in the command prompt I guess.
acidrip or dvd::rip, try one of those then.

By Jonathan Moeller - Last updated: Monday, October 11, 2010
There is,unfortunately, currently no stable version of Handbrake available for Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat; the changes to the new versions of GNOME broke the gtk version of Handbrake. However, it is possible to install the nightly development version of Handbrake with a few Terminal commands.
Note that the development version contains experimental code, and may not work, and may possibly break other things. That said, if you want to try it, here’s how to install it.
First, you’ll need to add the Handbrake PPA (personal package archive) to your Ubuntu system. Open up a Terminal window and use this command:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:stebbins/handbrake-snapshots
After the repository has been added, update your system’s listing of its repositories with this command:
sudo apt-get update
Once the repository listings have been updated, you can then install the graphical version of Handbrake with this command:
sudo apt-get install handbrake-gtk
You can also install the command line version of Handbrake with this command:
sudo apt-get install handbrake-cli
-JM
The warnings are the usual disclaimers they slap onto unreleased code. Not to be ignored but worth a try.
