Hi all,

How do I find out the 'value' (trade in) of my car?

It's a Renault Clio 1.2 Va Va Voom 2008, 3 DR with just over 108,000km on.

I think it's in great condition, all services done - I have been told it's in very good condition and obviously looked after so when I goto Toyota on Friday, I don't want them trying to 'try' and screw me.

Thanks!

It's a Renault, you will be getting screwed no matter where you go...

OP, trade value is R36500, retail is R40400

Although a Renault, it is a price range car and ideal for a student or first time buyer. Yes Renault (Peugeot and Citroen) have terrible resale values, yours with full service history and low mileage (average for 2008 is 160000km) I guess you could expect around the R30k mark.

A dealer would probably mark that at about R49990.00. The bonus is that been a 2008, a buyer can still get finance.

Hope that helps

Hey now, its a Va Va Voom, quite clearly stuff like that doesn't depreciate.
They had an advertising campaign with a French looking guy trying to explain wat Va Va Voom is. I did not get it. What is Va Va Voom? Maybe I am stupid.

So, what did your nearest Renault dealer say when you called them and asked?

Va va voom is when you bought a french hatchback and all the other european and asian cars still pass you on the motorway, so you say out loud "va va voom" as a sort of war cry for giving up (surrendering).

That TV ad featured Thierry Henry, the French and Arsenal player. Va Va Voom sounds like it's French, so the funny part was when TH asks the other guy what is French for Va Va Voom.

Now you get it?

Like mentioned earlier, the value of French cars also goes Va Va Voom.

If Toyota tries to screw you on a trade in, try to sell it either privately or to a used car Dealer.

In December, I went to a car dealership and they offered me R40,000 (approximately) for my car, but they even pushed it up to R45,000 but long story short... the cars they had didn't grab my attention so I ultimately said no.

I bought the car for R59,990 and they informed me that I had to send it for the cambelt change which is why it was also cheaper because that is expensive to do, especially on Renault cars.

They offered you R45k for a 2008 car with just a little over 108,000km on the clock?!
Son of a gun, I can get that kind of money for my 2001 car with 228,000km on the clock....and it's an Opel....

No, at the time I just just just went over 100,000km.
Look, there is more to the story - Like I said, none of the cars there grabbed my attention, they wanted the sales and they wanted my car, by comparison (and one of the reasons I said no) was that with each car they tried to sell me, I found issues, they looked at my car and could see it was in great-looked-after condition - all the cars I could've taken had various issues each and from what the guy told me, he could sell my car quickly because it was in such a condition that it was a guaranteed sale at probably a much higher price.

You haven't felt acceleration until you drive a 2001 corsa 1.7 DTI elegance model. (coty in the making)
