    So sasol.capetown and sasol.durban different sites or just redirect to the same site? What would be the advantage of having these?

    Sasol wanted to make sure no troll was going to buy their branded domain names and host all kinds of .... on it . I think these will probably redirect to the same site surely

    Its good for a local business. If you sell widgets in Durban then widgets.durban is going to be a lot better for you than widgets.co.za say. There's also the SEO stuff, Google does place a small value on the domain name when calculating relevance.

    Yeah I can understand a local business but a company like sasol (as in the article) having multiple domains is pointless especially if they all just redirect to the same actual site. The only need I see is for them to stop others "stealing" their domains (see KatieShroder's fnb.capetown example above).
