In 20 years I can maybe afford to buy this one.

    Rear-wheel-drive Huracán gets Spyder treatment

Earlier this year, Lamborghini released the Huracán Spyder LP610-4 (with drive sent to all four wheels). Now, it has taken the covers off the Spyder LP580-2, a rear-wheel-drive variant of the current Huracán.

Visually, the Huracán Spyder unexpectedly lends plenty from its coupe sibling, with aggressive front and rear bumpers. The roof mechanism can be operated at speeds up to 50 km/h and can be opened or closed in just 17 seconds.

Powering this version of the Huracán Spyder is the familiar naturally aspirated 5,2-litre V10 delivering 426 kW and 540 N.m of torque to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h takes 3,6 seconds, with top speed coming in at 319 km/h.

Overall, the Spyder weighs in (dry) at 1 509 kg thanks to liberal use of hybrid aluminium and carbon-fibre in the chassis.

Lamborghini has not revealed an official price, but it has stated that it will be positioned between the two- and four-wheel drive coupe models.

Lamborghini Huracan crashes into light post, splits in half

A Lamborghini Huracan was split into two pieces following a huge crash in Virginia. The rear of the supercar was set ablaze following the crash.

The crash occurred at a shopping centre at Gallows Road and International Drive in Tysons Corner, reports the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department said.

Photos posted by the department show the black supercar torn in half. Officials reports that the driver was treated for minor injuries.

Fairfax Fire and Rescue said: "Lamborghini hit a concrete light pole and was cut in half.

"The back end was on fire and quickly extinguished by the crew from Engine 413, Dunn Loring. One adult driver was treated for minor injuries by Medic 413."

But is the (some mid-engined) cars not designed to split in half in a crash in order to protect the occupants from the engine?

Yep, it's to remove mass/energy from the system in the event of an accident.

Lamborghini Huracan Spyder Gets Wedges Under Honda Civic In Chicago Crash

A Lamborghini Huracan Spyder suffered some substantial damage over the weekend after it slammed into the back of a Honda Civic wedging itself under the sedan in Chicago.

The reports (watch video below) mention that the Huracan was rear-ended by another car and rather than braking, the driver of the stealthy Italian supercar accidentally hit the accelerator, sending the car into the Civic.

From the pictures alone it is difficult to gauge how severe the damage is but we can see the passenger side front fender has been dented and bent and will need to be replaced. Unsurprisingly, the bumper has also been scratched and the hood damaged. The driver’s side half of the windshield has also been smashed.

The driver of the supercar was not phased at all about this incident and even mentioned he and his female partner would go shopping this week to find a replacement.
