    Smile Seeking C/C++/C#/Java programming jobs

    Greetings all,

So I've been reflecting a bit and decided it's time to make a move from my current employer. It's a brilliant place to work, but its starting to get long in the tooth and I desire something new, if not more complex.

I'm not a very social person (nor anti-social by any means), but I don't know of anyone who could put me in touch with companies seeking developers.

I'm loathe to go through recruiters because most of them do nothing more than pass your CV along and push you in to a position you might end up hating. Not all are like that, but I'm trying this route first.

I'm hoping someone here (a fellow developer) will see this if they're currently recruiting people.

    [Background]

    - Currently doing Java EE/.Net/Ruby/<Everything> development (you know how it goes, right?)
    - Been doing development for 14+ years now
    - Started out development doing gamedev back in the days of NeHe, DrunkenHyena and gamedev.net
    - Self taught and capable on pretty much any platform/language, if not I learn it pretty fast
    - Love C/C++ the most because of low-level nature and it's the language I first learned
    - I'm pretty language agnostic, except I keep working on legacy stuff which sucks!
    - Favourite distro is Arch, but I like debian/centos/redhat too (for production)
    - <insert long, long list of platforms, API's worked with and stuff I've done over the years>
    - Experience in game development and telecoms (fixed-line and cellular) mainly
    - Currently mentoring more junior developers and 'getting stuff done'

I'm currently working for a biggish telecoms company, but I would like to get in to something new (hopefully low-level?).

I'm sure as programmers you've also 'hit the wall' and desire a new set of technologies/infrastructure/problem solving to work on?

I'm based in the Sandton area, so the outlying suburbs are no problem to access for me. Would appreciate a job with some semblance of flexible hours.

I don't like mentioning remuneration, but I don't want to waste people's time either. I'm looking for at least 60k, which is about 15% higher than my current (so you know "I'm worth it" - hah!).

    Much appreciated.

I know you don't (yet) want to chat to recruiters, but I think you should give WhiteRaven a chance. Tell her what you're looking for, describe the nature of the position and your personality, and she'll present you with relevant prospective employers. Basically, tell her what you want, and she won't waste your time.

On a related note, I think your (current) salary is perhaps a touch low. R60k should be well within your earning potential (for a Gauteng position). This is just my personal opinion, though, so don't rely on it too much. However (and this is new to me too), I'm going to stop disclosing my current salary to prospective employers, this per this and other articles. This can safely be done if you're currently employed and not in dire need of a new job.

Some companies headhunt directly on LinkedIn rather than using recruitment agencies. Give it a go ?

But of course. People need to be reminded that everyone on MyBB is earning in the millions, and they should be too...

LOL. Fully aware of the dunning-kruger effect.
