    Default 2018 Audi SQ5 3.0 TFSI

Top dog of the new Q5 range.

Audi presented the new Audi SQ5 at the 2017 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. The sportiest member of the Q5 model series embodies more than ever the emotional concept of the practical SUV with the latest technology. It's turbocharged, 3.0 TFSI offers powerful performance combined with further enhanced efficiency.

    The 3.0 TFSI

The Audi SQ5 has a 2,995 cc, V6 TFSI engine with an output of 260 kW (354 hp). The turbocharged, aluminum engine delivers a constant 500 Nm (368.8 lb-ft) of torque from 1,370 to 4,500 rpm. The sprint from zero to 100 km/h (62.1 mph) is completed in 5.4 seconds; top speed is an electronically governed 250 km/h (155.3 mph). In the NEDC, the new Audi SQ5 3.0 TFSI consumes just 8.3 liters of fuel per 100 kilometer (28.3 US mpg) - a CO2 equivalent of 189 grams per kilometer (304.2 g/mi). Compared with its predecessor, this is a reduction of 13 grams per kilometer (20.9 g/mi).

    Wasn't it a diesel before?

Is this damage control for the emissions drama now?

It was petroleum & diesel to cater for different market preferences.

TDI for Euro-land countries & many others incl SA:

TFSI for North America & Middle East markets:

Aaah okay that makes a lot of sense.

So are they dropping the 2.5T? Or did this fatter car just need more beef?

    ****

Oh never mind that was a stupid question.

    5-cylinder vs V6.

The TDI version of the SQ5 packs quiet a punch, stupidly fast for a SUV... still want the TFSI version though.

New Audi SQ5 ditches supercharger for turbo...

This is the new Audi SQ5, and it is now the sportiest model in the Q5 line-up, employing a new turbocharged engine instead of the supercharged petrol mill that did duty in its predecessor in some markets (in South Africa, of course, we still have the V6 turbodiesel … for now).

In terms of styling, the SQ5 is set apart from run-of-the-mill models with sporty front and rear bumpers, which house extra air intakes and a new set of black tailpipes, respectively. Interior revisions include red contrasting stitching and carbon-fibre trim throughout the cabin.

But arguably the most important piece of the puzzle is the turbocharged 3,0-litre V6 nestling beneath the bonnet. This six-cylinder TFSI engine (which is some 14 kg lighter than the old supercharged unit) delivers 260 kW and 500 N.m to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission.

This makes the performance SUV good for a 0-100 km/h time of 5,4 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h. Remarkably similar figures to its supercharged forebear, but the Ingolstadt automaker says this new model is significantly more efficient.

To lend the SUV some added dynamism, it has also been fitted with a continuous damping control system. Adaptive air suspension is available as an option for those who seek a more comfortable ride.

No word yet on when South Africa can expect this new model to arrive, or whether an updated diesel option is in the pipeline.
