She's talking nonsense. All those positives could have been introduced without colonialism, through trade, sharing of knowledge, alliances and mutual respect. The idea that the oppression and subjugation through the establishment of colonies was necessary for development is nonsense.

LOL. Helen Zille is an imbecile. Whether what she says is true or valid is irrelevant. Any politician with an IQ in the double digits, should know that this sort of comment is best shared around the braai with close friends or family. Not to the world at large. Thanks for handing back some if not all of the votes you got from your opposition and playing right into their hands.

The thing is though, Nazism is not colonialism. The people rallied behind a cause… It like saying that colonialism is Apartheid, Apartheid it is an ideology turned into abusive legislation by a minority through control.

The problem in our country is due to the media and the government, because the minute you talk about Colonialism then every bodies mind change the word to Apartheid/oppression.

But she is right that it brought a lot of things we all enjoy today, but just like all the other comments it also brought the bad stuff and that is what everybody remembers and not the good part either.
The issue is that she needs to word her tweets much better as there is no emotion attached to online text.

So what she means and what she types does not always come across the same thing

Nobody is blaming the Romans, do they? Whoĺs blaming the Zulu's?
I'm not passing judgement on whether negatives outweigh benefits or anything of the sort, just stating the colonialism DID bring positives with it. Nothing more and nothing less.

Again, she isn't. She wasn't passing judgement on whether those things could have been introduced without colonialism. Its history now, colonialism happened. To just wholesale ignore some of the positives that came with it is just stupid, period.

I don't think anyone is saying it was necessary. Just that it brought positives with it. Which is true.

How does dumb stuff like this on Twitter far too often. At least she apologised after her own party members ripped her a new one.

Nobody is saying the two are exactly the same. But she wants to people to acknowledge that one atrocity wasn't all bad while refusing to acknowledge another because it was Jewish people on the receiving end. The hypocrisy is clear for all to see.

So all the positives were a direct result of the oppression and subjugation of people?

Zille is just pointing out historical facts. Telling her to shut up because it goes up against the narrative is literal political correctness.
