One rather pertinent example - RVP from Arsenal; iirc he was 29 as well?. Dude basically won us the EPL that year.
And a year or two later his career declined. Ok he did win the league for us.
Guess I'm just trying to justify the deal with the age of Sanchez and using the years that he will play as the rate of return. Not the possiblity of silverware.

Rate of return? Dude, this is not a company that you can apply such terminology to. It's about success - and perceived future success.

    Agreed.

The recent deal for coutinho at 160m euro for a 25 year old illustrates this best. He is untested to a certain extent but a very good player. As a five year deal he may decline or appreciate in skill and so costs 30m euro per year can be described as reasonable to some extent. Does Coutinho really improve the starting 11 by that much? Or does it buy barca goodwill with the fans for a statement signing, add some brazillian mystique, and buy them 2-4 years to find the next iniesta/modric.

RVP was worth it for whatever money and so would sanchez be if he was to go to whichever team if they win the league with him.

Look guys let's just agree to disagree, I just believe that age (for me) is factor when spending money on players, no matter how good they are. Buying younger player for big money versus a older player for big money. The younger in theory will give you more years service, giving more chances for silverware versus an older?

The day I see 31 yr old attacking player being bought for Neymar money on a 1 year deal is the day I no longer watch football....

Your Neymar analogy is a bit extreme.

Thing is, football has now become a massive, global, revenue earner. It's about shirts, sponsorship's, high profile players...and most importantly - TV revenue. Oh yes - and winning trophies..

The intrigue about player transfers adds a massive amount of interest in the game.

Sanchez to United? Totally under the radar. The buzz about it? Totally going to sell some shirts

You have to consider the player when it comes to age and what makes him good. Somebody like Bale is all about speed and power his decline will be rather quick I think, he's already showing signs that his body will not hold up.

Sanchez is by no means a slow player but that's not really the base of his game.

Alexis Sánchez not in Arsenal squad; has not travelled to Bournemouth. United now favourites for his signature

Remember that any deal for Sanchez was dependent on Arsenal getting a replacement...
