When it falls by more than R1 to the dollar, we can maybe say its "starting to tank". A few cents is nothing and is most likely unrelated to what what the twit protector said....

It is really all about politics. The ruling politicians try to control everything, and when their back is in the corner, they dig up the past in an attempt to obfuscate their own shortcomings. The current PP is a political deployment, so we cannot expect much independence, or even truth for that matter, from her office.

The current batch of politicians are feeling a little peeved that the recent deluge of impropriety that was exposed in the media recently, and over the course of the past few years, implicated people of colour. So, by their reasoning, if you show up that people of a different race are no different, then it makes it "even steven", or even acceptable (particularly for those who lack a strong sense of morality). The previous regime stole money, this is fairly common knowledge. By exposing their shortcomings, they attempt to play down the large-scale corruption of the present regime.

I wish people would stop using this work "tanks".

I haven't seen anything tank every time it's been used.

It's like saying a video went viral, when 10 people may have watched it.

I would disagree. 10 people seeing a video in Vatican City (population 451) would make it viral, for Vatican City.
