Openserve wants to lead fibre from neighbours pole.

I requested them to rather dig from manhole in street.

Have told the guy I will complain. For me an exposed fibre line will mean instability possibly during storms.

Whilst underground it would be stable and safer from interference?

Stage 1 Ė External Work: Bringing the fibre cable to your property

In the first phase Telkom lays Optical cables in the Main Services sleeves to manholes on one side of the pavement (could be under/upper ground as each suburb is different).

If the customerís premiseís is in need of any entry pipes, Telkom will provide a quote for trenching at R 2,087.25 (includes first 10 linear meters. Additional trenching will be at a cost of R208.73). A Telkom approved contractor is available to complete the work; alternatively the customer may make use of his own contractor to do the work.

Telkom will then connect the Fibre to a small box (ONT) which needs to be fixed to a wall inside your property, as per requirement from customer. It could be your internal server room, study, entertainment room as each home is different.

It's not susceptible to interference like copper is.

Mine is underground as that is where the phoneline ran but I would not care if it came from the pole. Underground is probably safer but I've never had any issues with copper dropwire in the past.

How do the free mobile data work on these deals

  10. #40

    Default

Hi jdido87. On the UNLIMITED home 4Mbps you get 1 GB mobile data. On 8Mbps and 10Mbps you get 2 GB. From 20Mbps upward you get 3 GB.

You get a Telkom SIM card. So, you’ll need to buy and extra phone.

Hi jdido87. Don’t worry. They say there are more cell phones than people in South Africa.

Its a data only sim? Havent tested it yet but they linked it to my data as an IDS sim so I can use some of my home data.

    VDSL?

Has it ever worked? If not you are missing a VLAN ID.
