Thread: @TelkomSA - Upgrading of exchange?

  1. #1

Unhappy @TelkomSA - Upgrading of exchange?

I was told by my ISP that i can post a thread here and it will be the best place to get an answer.

I moved in at my place in December 2016 and phoned Telkom beforehand to querie to what line speed i can get at the new place as i had a 10mb ADSL line at my previous home.

They told me that i will be able to get a 10mb line at the new place.

From the first day i had internet at the new place i had terrible packet loss and latency spikes.

Then i was told by my previous ISP that they want proof and screenshots and traceroutes was done and and and.

So when they logged it with Telkom, Telkom phoned me while they were at the exchange and told me that i am to far away from the exchange to be able to handle a 10mb line, so i downgraded to a 8mb line, same problem, eventually i downgraded to a 4mb line as i was told my line only syncs at 5.3mb.

So now i am on a horrible 4mb line and i still have the same problem.

I changed ISP 2 months ago, and when i phoned them with the problem, firstly they told me that my line is broken and it needed repairs, so Telkom repaired it because on the 4mb my line was just syncing at 2.7mb, but on the 8mb it was syncing at 5.7? How is this possible?

Then after the repairs i still get latency spikes and packet loss. So i phoned my ISP again, they state now that my line is congested and the exchange needs an upgrade if i want the problem resolved, so i phoned Telkom and asked is there any way that they can upgrade the exchange and they said that there is nothing planned and they can also not tell me when and if the exchange will be upgraded.

So now i am sitting with terrible internet and no way to resolve it.

I mean i can surely not be the only person complaining about this in my area.

I know Fibre is the new look for Internet in South Africa and most attention is going to that, but my area isn't covered yet, so what am i to do regarding this? They can't just forget / ignore the ADSL lines.

If anyone can assist with this i will appreciate it. I stay in Fairbridge Heights area in Uitenhage Eastern Cape.

Haai Hein. Skynbaar bly jy so 2 km vanaf die sentrale af.

Attenuation en SNR (signal to noise ratio) ens.

Watse details kort jy nog op my router?

    Ek sal hulp baie waardeer.

Haai Hein. Ja-nee, ek’t gedog LTE gaan dalk vrek duur wees.

Hier’s hoe ek by my Huawei router inkom, dalk help dit.

Hier’s slim ouens.

Doen ‘n Ookla spoedtoets ook. http://www.speedtest.net/

Ja ek kan in log by my router, ek het die details, so no problem. Ok ek is net by die werk op die oomblik, sodra ek by die huis kom sal ek dit doen.

Soos "murphy's law" dit sal he gaan alles seker wys dit is fine.

    Baie dankie,

Hi my nommer is 041922xxxx.

    https://uno.help/knowledge-base/arti...-zyxel-vmg1312

"Once logged into the router hover over the "System Monitor" option on the bottom menu and then select the "xDSL Statistics" option from the popup menu."

Jou SNR (signal to noise ratio) is 6,2 dB. Ek dink iemand soos Super Grandmaster Johnatan56 sal sę jou SNR is heel okay.

This article says: “On a good line, BT (British Telecom) generally considers that a 6 dB SNR margin is appropriate to maintain a connection without a significant number of drops or errors.”
