We were eventually taken to a Marabastad police station where we were beaten, and beaten and beaten...
    Not hard enough, obviously..

Shame, I wonder if this incident was the one to cause him to lose his mind?

Hope he is also going to recount the torture and killing of his fellow Africans in the camps he ran.

‘I’m proud of my Zuma statue’

The man who created a six-metre monument of President Jacob Zuma in Groot Marico, North West, says he is proud of the work that took him two months to complete. Chris van de Vyver, a boiler maker and fireball artist was appointed by the provincial department of arts, culture and traditional affairs to construct what he says is his biggest project yet.

Van de Vyver, 47, a sculptor based in Gauteng, started his career four-and-half years ago. “There is no one higher than him [Zuma] in the country. I said to myself, ‘I’ve got to take it serious as it was something big’, and it came out nice. I am proud of it.” Van de Vyver of Fireball SA was the runner-up in the Southern Africa Stainless Steel Development Association awards art category for the creation of stainless steel sculptures last year.

He told Sowetan that he saw an advert in a newspaper looking for artists who could create the monument commemorating Zuma’s site of arrest in Groot Marico at a price lower than R6-million. He did not want to say how much he was paid for the work but insisted it was less than the initial R6-million quoted.
He said his job only followed the specifications given in the newspaper advert and he used his “God-given talent” to come up with the idea. The stones he used on the walls that form part of the Liberation Heritage route were taken from the Marico River. Van de Vyver has never met Zuma but hopes to do so. “I still believe that I will meet him, I would like to meet him.”

I am of a nation that would not allow that fear of death, of torture, of imprisonment, of exile or persecution should result in the perpetuation of injustice.

Nope, just need to be able to talk. Books of this type are not written by the person themselves but by ghost writers.

If you’ll permit me to loosely paraphrase an essential maxim, writing about bad sculpture is like farting about performance art. That said, the piece commemorating Zuma’s arrest is constructed from a bunch of scrap metal shaped into a cancerous testicle, one sheet of which bears a lasered portrait of the president in relief. The metal teste sits atop eight vivaciously twisted stainless steel bars, and resembles the sort of North Korean monument that Kim Jong-un would use as a murder weapon. The effect brings to mind the words of the American author Christian Nestell Bovee: “Bad taste is a species of bad morals.”

At least the police actually did their work in those days. These days, they are "jus resting their eyes" : https://twitter.com/povonewsafrica/s...194304/video/1

Can't understand how they used that, this would have been better, and much cheaper.
