Thread: Post Office charging Customs Handling Fee on Imports

What is the average wait time for parcels these days? I just received a parcel from Gearbest that I ordered at the beginning of October via regular Post. At least I got it eventually I guess.

You would've thought the R24 charge would result in less parcels going missing, but it's far worse than it's ever been. 1 in 3 parcels are just not arriving.

I'm also wondering that. I ordered stuff from MyProtein last year - something like the end of November. It arrived in South Africa in the middle of December, and left customs on the 20th of December.

It has now been sitting in JIMC for 6 weeks and I am wondering if a JIMC employee is now using the MyProtein stuff I bought.

I have had very few losses over the last 6 months, an item may take forever to arrive but it eventually does, delivery seemed to speed up after they started charging the R24 and then nosedived again

Just forget about what you order other than noting in your calendar when the buyers protection expires and when they arrive they arrive.

Had a parcel shipped fro, Hungary on 06/02/2018 - In SA yesterday, let's see how long customs takes. Same breath, had an item shipped from UK last month, still en route. Royal Mail is worse than SAPO.

What's the best way to get an international tracking number "converted" to a local tracking number?

I gave up on the customer care number after 25 minutes on hold. I've tried the email a number of times, but also no response. Even tried the SMS option, but no luck.

17Track only provides tracking info until it's sent to South Africa. Once it gets here, you need a local number to get any further.

That's the last thing it says.
And you'll just have to wait.

    Thats news to me...

All the items I send to SA I can use the international tracking number all the way to my local PO. On both 17Track and the international and SA tracking websites.

Agreed. 17track does do local tracking as well. I'm busy tracking two local parcel currently and it's updating regularly.

I think it only tracks local if it can query the local post office.

True that. Local post office servers down more than up.

Just look at the jumps in date in my attached picture, in earlier post. Sometimes there can be a month between tracking updates on the website.
