So the price is actually right?

This is really half-assed click-bait sensationalist reporting.

Noooo The price is NOT right! Someone scored R100.000-00 per kit !!! And that is if you buy it as a private person. One kit only. For a big order like this, someone scored even more than 100.000-00 Rand.

    No
Definitely sounds like a corrupt transaction.

Do you know which models and with what accessories SAPS purchased, and what the price really is? Did it include a multi-year service/support contract? Also, what was the exchange rate used? Some reports mention the purchase was in Euros, so perhaps they had to buy through the European distributor/agent...

Until we have better facts, I'm reserving judgment on this one.

PS. I execrate Zupta corruption as much as anyone.

Of course. SAPS bought 169 Kits. And paid around R300.000-00 per Kit. But even if you order it privately (one kit only) you won't pay more than 200.000-00 Rand + another R1000-00 or so for UPS or FedEx. Someone made 169 x 100.000 = 16.900.000-00 Rand But in reality they should have scored more like R20.000.000 million from the deal because of the bulk order and transport!

Why do they need something that expensive?
If they "misplace" guns at the rate that they do, I'd hate to think how many of these expensive flashlights they lose, probably, on a daily basis

Perhaps I missed it. But where does it state what model and manufacturer the torches (light sources to be more accurate and less click-baity and sensationalist) are? And where does it state what the torches mentioned cost the average private client???

Of course they don't but this is life in SA 2017. This kits are use by the specialized forensic teams only and not all the forensic teams! It looks like just about every forensic member including the floor cleaners, got one kit
