Where are these new schools being built? They were supposed to build a new school in my area, they cleared the land and everything, this was 4 years ago. Nothing happened, they were supposed to build a new school where I lived with my dad, it's been fenced off since I matriculated in 1999, they did finally finish the High school they started in 1996 in the late to mid 2000s. There are plenty of private schools but I'd like to know where these mythical public schools are? Because even areas that have been around 10 to 11 years don't have any schools that service them and the schools are just outside 5km away.
Actually come to think about it, where are the new hospitals, police stations, fire stations or any government entity? Oh wait...
I've been around for a long, long year

The reality is more likely that these parents want to have their kids in the "better school".

Failing of course to realise the reason it is better than the other schools is because of the teachers and class sizes.

Overvaal school wins first round in legal tussle with Gauteng department of education

The Gauteng department of education has failed to convince the High court in Pretoria to throw out‚ for lack of urgency‚ the Hoerskool Overvaal’s legal bid to prevent 55 learners from attending this school.

The department had argued that the school would suffer no harm if the 55 Grade 8 learners were admitted‚ saying the children posed no threat to the school governing body‚ which brought the application on behalf of the Afrikaans medium school.

Kumbirai Toma‚ the department’s advocate‚ further argued‚ albeit in vain‚ that the department had put necessary resources‚ English educators and learning material in place to ensure that the learners were not a burden to the school come Wednesday‚ January 17. “Everything that the learners need has been provided . . . it is a sad scenario that the kids are denied access to the school‚” he said.

This will be more of the same story, as soon as the classes get to big the rich parents start taking their kids out, leading to an overall decline of the school. Most of our model c schools have high school fees and are essentially run like private schools.

Court battle heats up as Hoërskool OverVaal makes renovations

Pretoria - An Afrikaans medium school which is at the centre of a court fight over dozens of English speaking pupils which the Gauteng Education Department wants it to accommodate has opted to turn unused classrooms into specialised rooms instead.

According to state advocate Kumbirai Thoma, the renovations at Hoërskool OverVaal were done without the Department of Basic Education’s authorisation.

Thoma was responding on the third day of proceedings in the North Gauteng High court, in Pretoria, over the school's insistence to prevent the department from forcing it to admit 55 English speaking learners into the school.

The court also heard how other high schools in the area were making alterations to take in more learners.

Advocate Albert Lamey, representing Hoërskool OverVaal, had previously told the court that the school had reached its capacity and that the decision on the language policy of the school was the realm for the school's governing body (SGB).

Official accused of ‘racial’ profiling at Overvaal

A senior Gauteng education official tasked with finding places for desperate pupils in schools has allegedly been manipulating the process by racially profiling children.

The official, who is based in the East Sedibeng district and whose name has not yet been made public, allegedly assigned pupils to schools based on their names and surnames.

This is the latest accusation in a battle between the Gauteng education department and Hoërskool Overvaal, which has insisted it is too full and therefore cannot accept pupils who do not speak Afrikaans as their first language.

The official allegedly placed pupils who do not have Afrikaans names and surnames into English-medium schools in the area, or in others far from their homes.

City Press established that other department officials revealed this to members of the Overvaal transformation committee last month. Parents founded the committee in 2016 to demand that Hoërskool Overvaal transform and offer English as an additional medium of instruction.

High Court sets aside bid to have Hoërskool Overvaal admit 55 English-speaking learners

The North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria has set aside the decision by the Gauteng department of education to admit 55 learners to be taught in English, into Hoërskool Overvaal, an Afrikaans medium school.

Judge Bill Prinsloo has found in favour of Hoërskool Overvaal in that the school does not have the capacity to admit the additional learners.

"The instruction by the District Director of Sedibeng East, to place further learners for enrolment is set aside," said Prinsloo.

"I find that on the probabilities that the school has no capacity to receive the 55 English learners, let alone of such short notice and convert to a dual medium school."

He further said the District Director and perhaps Head of department and MEC Panyaza Lesufi acted in conflict with the constitutional principal of legality, and that the decision to admit the additional learners was unlawful.
After judgment was handed down, parents of the affected pupils, who had been attending the court case, started shouting that they would shut down and burn the school.

It won’t be the end. I reckon that this ****storm just started. Lesufi is an ideological nutcase.

You don't get it do you... THERE IS NO SPACE.

Nothing even the CC can do about it... About time the ANC start building school and stop waiting till January every year to try and drive an agenda...

Maybe you should go back to school...

    I would welcome an appeal.

So the gde forced principals of English speaking schools nearby which had space for the kids to recant their affidavits to that effect and lie, under threat of being publically labeled as racists for supporting a racist school.
