Default City of Cape Town caucus recommends De Lille's removal

Cape Town - The DA’s Cape Metro caucus has decided to recommend to its higher bosses that Patricia De Lille be removed as the mayor of the City of Cape Town.

Grant Twigg, DA metro leader, said: “Patricia De Lille has lost the confidence of the Metro Executive, the relevant political authority. We are of the view that the City of Cape Town requires stability, unity and functionality - which we believe she cannot deliver.”

“I communicated our recommendations to party leadership and trust they will act swiftly in the best interests of the organization. All public representatives are accountable to its party and voters, and as party leadership we need to ensure that all deployees are acting in the best interests of voters as well as the organization, and not themselves. The metro executive has not taken these decisions lightly but after careful consideration and deliberation,” Twigg said.

He also said the DA caucus will not support De Lille’s proposed drought levy.

May I ask, is your problem with her specifically or with the DA in general or both?

I've always had a problem with De Lille, but as time passes I am increasingly disliking the DA in general too. So both.

Thanks for clarifying. What is your problem with De Lille? The turncoat thing or how she managed the city as mayor?

Historically the turncoat thing for sure, can't trust someone who will sell their morals to the highest bidder / winning horse at the drop of a hat.

I honestly don't know enough about her direct actions when it comes to management of the city as mayor or how much truth there is to the corruption allegations, most of that I'd blame on the DA in general, it takes two to tango after all.

She served her purpose....sewed up the coloured vote....Bonginkosi Madikizela will be the next mayor... -the Zille wing of the party has won this round.

Must just add, seems like there has been an internal settlement within the DA, how factions, lack of a better word, will be in control of certain regions, where the DA governs.

Not all other parties are happy: https://www.enca.com/south-africa/ud...nt-of-de-lille

The UDM is criticising the DA for its treatment of Cape Town mayor Patricia de Lille.

She’s fighting to keep her job as she faces allegations of maladministration.

The UDM says the DA prefers a kangaroo court to remove undesirable members.

It’s accusing the party of pushing out De Lille in order to replace her with DA Western Cape leader, Bonginkosi Madikizela.
