did a quick a Amazon search on a couple items and found that these exclusive offers more or less match the retail price on Amazon. Taking into consideration that historically the price of Canon gear used to be slightly cheaper here than in the States for whatever reason. The problem is though all Canon Gear currently sold is priced back when the rand was over 15 Rand to the dollar, I wouldn't be surprised if Canon bought back the gear from retailers that they purchased when the Rand was in the 5h1tter and selling it direct to customers at cost.

That's odd - I saved boatloads buying much of my gear from the US.

How do those prices compare locally?

EDIT: From what I can see those prices are cheaper than Orms.

Even now - the 7Dmk2 is cheaper at B&H than Orms. As is the 200-400mm.

EDIT: Fact is those prices are cheaper than you'll get locally. Not sure what makes it a "trap"

Yeah this is true because the pricing of still used is based on over R15 to the dollar, they'll eventually have to adjust pricing for the current exchange rate (hopefully)

It's been nearly two years since it was R15 to the USD.

These are not bad at all:
    F EF50 mm f 1.8 STM Lens 1 198,99
    F EF40 mm f 2.8 STM Lens 2 299,00
    EF-S 10-18 mm f 4.5 - 5.6 IS STM Lens 2 499,00
    EF-S 55-250 mm f 4-5.6 IS STM Lens 3 298,99
    MACRO EF-S 60 mm F2.8 USM Lens 4 499,00
Not sure why you would think it's a rip-off...

Yet imported goods remained unchanged, despite rand improving, importers probably hedging against the instability of the rand but the rand has been stable at this level more or less in 2018

Local electronics almost always cost whatever the conversion rate is + x% markup. It's never just a straight USD/ZAR conversion.

Conversation + approximately 30% of the MSRP of the international pricing I know that. Canon gear usually ended up lower than US MSRP after conversation for whatever reason , unlike Nikon whose pricing stuck to the convention mentioned above, this was the Nikon tax people used to talk about

I don't recall canon gear ever being less expensive in SA compared to the US, at least not until you add on any applicable taxes, duties, and shipping costs.

Prices are not bad at all and they also sold stuff at the roadshows last year cheaper than any other store locally.

I've been watching the 77D + 18-135 bundle for a while now and this is the cheapest I've seen it go for.

This is product was announced when the rand was around R12 to the dollar. the Canon 80D is selling at $1000 in USA and R15,000 locally if Canon followed their range pricing this kit should of retailed for 12 to 13K

You can't convert it directly like that. There's shipping and taxes involved too.

I'm interested in this one, EOS 200D SL 18-55 IS with Deluxe Gadget Bag 5 999,00

Price is about R1500 cheaper than anywhere I have checked, and the reviews of this camera look good for a first time dslr.
