ok i tried installing chrome o/s using etcher and rufus to no avail. It either creates like 10 partitions on my usb drive and not booting up and etcher renders my usb drive useless, either way i always end up having to reformat the flashdisk, any other software i could try, i'm trying to burn CARMOS-20180514010101.img onto the flashdisk (this is the chrome OS image)

I use Ubuntu on a 2.0 flash disk just as a way to rescue Windows when things go bad. Its slow but certainly useful, on a 3.0 Flashdisk it should be great. There are many guides that explain how to set it up with persistence.

I would rather use Neverware than go directly to ChromeOS which is more of an in-dev option.

By default it reduces the number of writes Puppy makes to the drive. Puppy is designed for running on flash drive and CF cards, and limiting writes to the disk is peferable.

This might be a distro-specific issue. Are you using Ubuntu and if so, which version?

Drivers in Linux exist in the kernel, they're automatically loaded if supported hardware is detected.

Linux Mint might be up your alley.

Puppy Linux is small about 150 mb if I remember. Slacko is a bit bigger but more options. Very easy to use no commands needed, runs almost like windblows.
There's your problem. Stoners are like brain damaged sloths on Prozac. Short of using them as garden gnomes - they have no real function.

    This will keep you busy

Seems you will work and live on the non-connected machine.

It may be painful to live on a USB stick to update and install many programs over time.
If indeed you want an OS on USB, others indicated various OS options to run from USB.

If it is me, I would rather:
    a. Run the "Internet access OS" in virtual environment on your "non-connected OS". Use say virtualbox.
    b. Accept you have to format Windows between 9-18 months to keep it working well and live happily ever after on the one machine.
    Best regards,
    Gaaf en groete,
