I think the professor did his homework before answering if he came across the same wiki I did:

I would then ask exactly the same question. Are you going to nibble a date during the exam, or are you going to have a 5 course meal?
It's reasonable given the context above. Kudos to him for doing research before answering...

Given the above, I don't think the professors reply was acerbic at all, but rather inquisitive (if a little curt). She was the one that took insult, rather than him giving it.

What a find, what a find

In the Middle East, the iftar meal consists of water, juices, dates, salads and appetizers, one or more main dishes, and various kinds of desserts. Usually, the dessert is the most important part during iftar. Typical main dishes are lamb stewed with wheat berries, lamb kebabs with grilled vegetables, or roast chicken served with chickpea-studded rice pilaf. A rich dessert, such as luqaimat, baklava or kunafeh (a buttery, syrup-sweetened kadaifi noodle pastry filled with cheese), concludes the meal.[48]

Loved reading (still do) and enjoyed English - made a nice change from Maths, Stats and Computer Science

Edit: As an aside, more engineers could do with taking a few Liberal Arts course rather than pure STEM course - broaden their minds and make them more effective in the workplace imo

Yup we should wait for another news event. This is uninteresting actually.

Without going through all the previous 100 or so posts and, at the risk of repeating an earlier post, here goes.....

For Catholics, fasting is a part of Lent and, had a Catholic received that answer to the same question, it would simply have provoked mirth.

UCT management would not have given it a second thought and certainly not have cared about any cry-baby hurt feelings.
