    Default #CIT guards speak out

    https://www.iol.co.za/news/south-afr...k-out-15318169

"I had to undergo a three-week course in advanced gun-handling and driving, including doing other tactical training. But that training is not utilised anymore, and companies just hire anybody with a basic security certificate to work in the cash-in-transit industry. Some of them have never fired a gun. How are they expected to be effective during a violent robbery?” he asked.

“When we express our concern, the same security (personnel in the guarding division) say we are trying to block them from accessing employment in the cash-in-transit industry. Our work is high risk and thankless. I don’t blame our colleagues for falling for thugs who bribe them to get inside information,” he added.

Compounding their lack of resources, the guards are also subjected to rigorous interrogation by police and company investigators after a robbery. During this period they are also barred from work and receive only a portion of their salaries
    Yeah whatever mate

    G4S targeted 5 times in 1 day

Security services company G4S says the recent surge in cash-in-transit heists is unacceptable after it was targeted five times in one day.

On Monday, there were several cash-transit-heists reported across the country.

G4S confirmed to News24 on Tuesday that its security guards were attacked in four separate incidents while performing cash collection services on Monday.

The attacks took place in eMalahleni in Mpumalanga, East London and Mthatha in the Eastern Cape and Krugersdorp, west of Gauteng.

The company also confirmed an attack on one of its armoured vehicles in Vanderbijlpark on the same day.

The robbers used explosives in an attempt to gain access to the vehicle but failed and fled the scene empty handed.

The company said that while their armoured vehicles were not involved in four of the incidents, their staff members were attacked.

In the Mthatha attack, a G4S security guard was shot multiple times in the chest. He is in a stable condition in hospital.

Heavy gunfire rang out in King William’s Town’s main street yesterday morning when a cash-in-transit robbery gang clashed with armed security guards. One alleged gangster, who was dumped by his robber crew who sped off leaving him on foot, was chased down by the police and security guards. The robbers hit a cash-in-transit van at the bustling Alexander Road petrol station and convenience store at the entrance to the town at 8.

I don't even watch that many action movies anymore. There is so much gun slinging going on in my neighbourhood, I see to Rambo and Tinky Winky in the same light. Hollywood!!!!!! Pull in for a lekker movie plot. No acting required, you can literally film it all live.

    Don't know.

How many other CIT companies are there and how big are they? If G4S is very big compared to the others, obviously they will be hit most.

POLICE ASSISTED BY MEMBERS OF THE FARM WATCH ARREST SUSPECTS SOON AFTER CASH-IN-TRANSIT HEIST

    2018-06-06

LETSITELE - The relentless efforts by members of the South African Police Service in Limpopo to deal with the scourge of cash-in-transit heists, yielded positive results when four suspects were arrested soon after committing an armed robbery.

The G4S security officers were on Tuesday 2018-06-05 at about 18h30 transporting money along the R71 road between Letsitele and Tarentaal outside Tzaneen when about ten (10) suspects traveling in two cars accosted them.

According to the information, the suspects suddenly started firing at the wheels of the security vehicle and after it came to a halt they then ordered the three security officers out at gun point before blasting it with explosives. The then fled the scene after taking an undisclosed amount of money.

The police were called, reacted swiftly and within minutes the vehicles were spotted. A car chase ensued along the Hoedspruit/Lydenburg road. Members of the Farm Watch joined and assisted in blocking the route. One of the vehicles was cornered next to Swadini in Hoedspruit Policing area and a shootout ensued. Of the five suspects who were in the car, three aged between 43 and 25 were nabbed, one managed to flee and one was fatally wounded. The three suspects and the deceased are form Burgersfort, Burgersorp outside Tzaneen, Huizeview and Bushbuckridge in Mpumalanga.

The other vehicle was cornered next to Strydom tunnel and after a shootout, the suspects abandoned it and fled on food. The police managed to apprehend one of them and others are still being pursued.

    The following were recovered:
    • A white Mercedes Benz ML
    • A black Audi
    • Two (2) AK 47 rifles
    • One (1) R4 rifle
    • One (1) Batetta pistol
    • Two (2) police bullet proof vests
    • Two (2) army bullet proof vests
    • One (1) hand two-way radio
    • Two (2) bags of money
    • The blue lights

The arrested suspect are likely to be linked with other cash in transit heist committed in Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces. The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has commended the members for their swift response. " This is yet another message that we are sending to other criminals out there that their days are numbered," said General Ledwaba.

The suspected will appear in Tzaneen magistrate court soon. More arrests are expected.
