I still support physical discipline in schools. These kids are acting out because they're spoiled entitled little brats who never learned that their actions can have unfavourable consequences.

Back in the day we faced actual punishment for stepping out of line. The order of severity went: detention, hide tanned, suspension and then expulsion. And if you really stepped out of line by doing something criminal, you'd get caned by the cops under doctor's supervision (yes, millenials, even the whiteys).

    Worked like a charm.

I'm sure a teacher ought to be able to able a retaliatory slap in self defence? Just be sure it counts and makes the little **** quiver at the thought of trying to lay a hand on you.

In a snowflake society such as what we are in today, it would never be any fault of the children.

“We condemn and act decisively in dealing with teachers involving themselves in such conduct.”

I see the decolonisation of education is well and truly under way. Great job Africa!

That's illegal. They would be suspended and lose their job.

Actual punishment remains available today. There are schools which were devoid of mayhem 30 years ago that still have no mayhem. So your hypothesis does not stand up to scrutiny.

We've had this discussion before. It's a point on which we'll have to agree to disagree.

Which has absolutely nothing to do with corporal punishment being banned.

There were also strict legal limits on corporal punishment in South Africa. That South African schools were infested with violent criminals masquerading as teachers doesn't change the fact that so-called hide tanning was illegal long ago. Parents and pupils just didn't know the law or they were too passive to lay criminal charges against these scum. Today there'd be video evidence and they wouldn't be able to keep their dirty little habits secret like they did decades ago.
