Default Load Rotation - Joburg City Power term for Metro load shedding

Wednesday evening JHB City Power lost a 225KV to 88KV transformer at Prospect substation that feeds a major part of the North and north East Johannesburg. Later reports mentioned a fault on the Bus section at Sebenza.
Since then they have been shedding / rotating / Load balancing the affected areas, without giving much detail of what is happening, and no schedule of when areas are expected to be without power.
No ETA on when they expect to restore power fully.

Found an article that may shed some light on what is going on as there is no communication from City Power as to what the issues are that they are facing. It looks like they are switching to their new Substation in Sebenza due to the original fault at Prospect substation. Makes sense, but too much to expect clarity on the situation from the Metro it seems.

    http://www.ee.co.za/article/largest-...-schedule.html

    Extracts from the Article:
Sebenza substation, located immediately behind the Kelvin power station near Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, rated at 1000 MVA 400/275/132 kV will be the largest substation built in South Africa over the last ten years.

Although the new substation and Kelvin power station are located within the City of Ekurhuleni (previously known as Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality) region, it belongs to Johannesburg’s electrical utility City Power.
    ...
The new substation is being built by Consolidated Power Projects (Conco), an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor, with consulting engineers from PSW and Nyeleti.

It will become one of the main intake substations in the north-eastern region of Johannesburg, making it one of the country’s electricity supply hubs which are expected to stimulate much needed economic growth. One of its functions is to relieve load from the Prospect substation.
    ...
The new substation is located in an industrial area known as Sebenza, near Kempton Park and Edenvale within the boundaries of the City of Ekurhuleni. The new Sebenza intake substation will strengthen City Power’s distribution network growth. The substation has been fitted with three 315 MVA, 275/88/22 kV autotransformers which were specially manufactured for the project by Actom
    ...
Conco expects to hand the site over to City Power in April 2018 – ahead of schedule and within budget. It has been suggested that Eskom will ultimately take over the substation and increase its output significantly. It remains unclear what is being planned for the future of the Kelvin power station.

load rotation, that what they calling it?

guess load shedding gained too much of a bad name, so they have to find another term for unplanned power cuts...

no worthless schedules this time? or areas with priorities like hospitals/schools/ ANC members ect...

Load rotation would be a localised emergency event, they cannot make a schedule for load rotation.

    what happened to power cut?

is that now called by another PC name, like electricity shortage that is completely random, but happens when you least expect it.

If it was a power cut, then all areas would be off. They are able to provide some power to that whole section, but not enough for the demand, so they rotate the affected areas so that everyone at least get some power now and again. Do you think residents would prefer no power at all until all repairs are done?

Yup CityPower treating people like Mushrooms. No communication as to what is going on at the moment and their plans to rotate. Seems to be a 4 hour rotation.
Illovo went off at 13:30 when Linksfield, Sydenham, Orange Grove were restored.
