Default Eskom cuts power supply to NC municipality over R11.5m debt

JOHANNESBURG - Residents at Khai-Ma Municipality in the Northern Cape province will this week experience power cuts because of overdue debt owed to South Africa's power utility, Eskom said on Tuesday.

Khai-Ma is one of the country's municipalities that collectively owe Eskom billions of rands for bulk electricity supply accounts. Khai-Ma owes the state-owned utility over R11 million.

''Khai-Ma Local Municipality's failure to honour its payment agreement has left Eskom with no other option but to interrupt bulk supply to the municipality. As published in the notice on 19 June 2018, the interruption will commence on 12 July 2018

For those wondering WTF this is, the 4 main towns are Aggeneys, Onseepkans, Pella and Pofadder. Total population according to Wikipedia is 12,465: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khai-M...l_Municipality

Tiny % of what they need to collect . Obviously has no impact on elections

Eskom is owed about R30 billion by municipalities, with Soweto responsible for about R14 billion of that

Just to put that in perspective .
Eksdom is cutting off power to a debtor who contributes around 0.04% towards their outstanding debt, but have no similar plans in place to force collection from a debtor who owes 47%.
How does that even come close to making business sense?

    But still ... we paaaaa-aaayy!
