Absa mobile payments app Sling Pay may officially launch soon

Absa has been piloting a mobile payments app called Sling Pay in recent months, and may officially launch the service following its rebranding in July 2018.

Sling Pay allows Absa clients to send money to anyone using the recipient’s cellphone number, enabling payments to people without bank accounts.

Spot is linked to your credit card while this seems more cash focused. You can't withdraw cash at an atm from your spot app.

    Those fees seems quite high.

It's basically like a virtual account, you can link it to an account, but you can also just have it as a kind of virtual wallet for instant payments. Right now it's a separate app not integrated into their banking app.

Obviously all the banks are going to be experimenting with mobile banking and payment options, they would be crazy not to.

It sounds like M-PESA. Vodacom tried to launch it a while back, but uptake was very low in SA. Very popular in Mozambique, Kenya and DRC.
