There have been improvements though, the newer Suzukis are much safer and even Renault/Nissan have managed 5 stars in Global NCAP...
The updated Nissan Magnite managed 5 stars in Global NCAP, so it's not as if they can't make somewhat safe vehicles. Mahindra also does pretty well in general.
Global NCAP is still a joke compared to Euro NCAP though.

I'd stay far away from the i10, or any Indian built Hyundai, they're probably the least safe new cars you can buy.
