You aren't gonna go wrong with a globally diversified ETF. S&P 500 while more focused on US large cap stocks, is also great. Just don't overlap your ETFs. Open the factsheets and have a look at the sectors and regions they are comprised of.
I would say they are fine for my current situation. I mainly invest in ETFs and they have all the main Vanguard / Blackrock ones was looking for.

Why would you transfer out of a TFSA, just for higher yield? do you realize the saving you are getting on CGT if you withdraw after 60 years of compounding from a TFSA.
Why are we assuming that the OP is financially constrained, when he hasn't mentioned anything about that. I am giving the OP my opinion on the TFSA. Which is actually not what the OP was asking for to begin with.

Would say you missed the point of what everyone here is saying to you. No one is saying not open up a TFSA as soon as possible, they are saying that it shouldn't be withdrawn from as soon as your child has access to it. Not many kids have sound long term financial knowledge at 18.
I use Easy Equities for my TFSA. In my opinion they are fine for buy and hold ETFs. Browse through the various ETFs they offer. They also have a demo account.

TFSA is a must, however in my opinion it is a retirement investment vehicle, not ideal for educational cost. Think that everything has been covered regarding the effects of compound interest over the long run and the fact there is a limit to contributions.
