Google Maps vs Waze vs Apple Maps vs physical paper maps?

Waze 100% - It's always more up to date in terms of on-the-road warnings.

    New The PC Build Thread

They made it, but for what? The only applicable use case I can see here is power users doing PC virtualization who want two high-performance game instances running on one machine. Having split, larger L3 caches won't help anyone, unless your software can be made NUMA-aware, which no games...

    3d Printers South Africa

I'm just saying, but scale this up a bit and you have an epic 'skeleton' style fursuit head. @Moosedrool knows what I'm talking about. Now I need a 3D printer.

Hardware Bargains 2 - Electric Boogaloo

Very dope, TYVM, dropped it into a system replacing a ryzen 1600, ancient pc now keeping up with the newest.

Hardware Bargains 2 - Electric Boogaloo

Attention AM4 users of 1xxx/2xxx/3xxx/4xxx processors. Probably your last chance to upgrade unless you're going to wait it out for the neverending RAM crisis to end. https://www.bobshop.co.za/-amd-ryzen-5-5500x3d-gaming-cpu-am4-3d-v-cache-excellent-performance/p/673786022...

    RAM prices are ridiculous

I'll agree completely, as someone in this sector, GN is the only person worth listening to in any meaningful capacity, LTT seems like he's done a sellout & his technical expertise has been steadily going downhill since 2016, he's just a face of a sponsor-segment media empire. GN on the other...

    New The PC Build Thread

They are really going to struggle.. At the kind of price point the AM4 5600 / AM5 7500X3D operates at.. it's a tough one to beat. People are now much more reluctant to let their DDR4 platforms go, and anyone in the market who's trying to 'future proof' is going to build on their existing...

    RAM prices are ridiculous

As someone in the same industry, 100% agree with what you say. Resellers are having a hard time, distis are having a hard time, and end users are complaining about both. Can we blame the manufacturers for once? It's not our fault. Disti % often pathetic enough so that a shipping error wipes out...

What game are you playing now? (Part 2)

I've been addicted to https://store.steampowered.com/app/2168680/Nuclear_Option/ It's like ace-combat mixed with DCS world & it's an awesome experience to immerse yourself in. Arc raiders obviously, BF6 I'll try again once they add dedicated servers, sick of getting put into matches with bots &...

    Intelligent Computing

I've bought a handful of things from intcomps website - network cards, switch, drives. All arrived without issue. They're one of the first places I check for cheap old IT junk.

ECC DDR4 is *impossible* to source and worth more than its weight in gold right now. DDR5, pretty easy. :)

What is your oldest functioning laptop in use?

I still actively maintain a old HP Pentium M laptop with 4GB of RAM & a 80GB IDE SSD for my father. Windows 7, all he uses on it is outlook for mails, and to use the CD player in it with Windows Home Media center for music. Personally, I don't really use a laptop for anything but work, which...

    New The PC Build Thread

Depends if you've configured the CPU to take advantage of it.. AMD Ryzen likes specific matched memory performance to the IO-die Fclock, otherwise you have to run it at half cycles. 3200Mhz = 1600mhz which is achievable by every chip 3600 = 1800mhz which should be achievable by the 95%...

If Starlink becomes available in South Africa, will you sign up?

I signed up years ago, cancelled after the 3rd year of waiting, moved house to get fiber access, etc. Might move my folks to it, or use it as my own backup, but depends on the costs.

Dell 7280 weird intermittent power issue

Could it be as easy as a damaged/poorly connected power button? Sounds like a laptop i'd keep in sleep mode 100% of the time, barring the occasional restart.
