    The official running thread™

Shoes, ja. I prefer the Falke thicker socks; more cushioning. Shorts with inner compression liner. One of my shirts from races (the FNB and JPMorgan shirts are the best). Cap, always - stops sweat and good for sun Phone - I often take pics on the way Belt pouch big enough for phone and...

    Manual vs Automatic

Absolutely. Caps, the hats worn by old people, the hats worn by taxi drivers, helmets - anyone with a hat on should be avoided.

    Manual vs Automatic

The Avanza might well be one of the worst vehicles ever sold in SA. I hade one as a rental once. Opened the boot to put my luggage in...and not enough space. Luggage had to go on the back seats. It had a near-horizontal cup holder (WTF?). Handling was terrible, engine was screamy. Just awful all...

    Manual vs Automatic

You can get similar issues on old manual vehicles too. We once broke a sideshaft on a car from an era you'd appreciate (it could be crank-started!), but couldn't get it into 4WD because the locking front hubs were gummed up with dust.

    Manual vs Automatic

You have that right. Anyone wearing a hat while driving is, almost without exception, a menace on the road.

    Mate 40 Pro Review

OK, here's a lot more detail on apps: Working: South African banking apps - FNB definitely, from my experience. Notifications are not always immediate though. Discovery app - I did have to reinstall it from AppGallery; the cloned version was very broken. Frost for Facebook, Twitter (no...

LG is shutting down its phone business by July 31st

Sad to see them go. I had a V30+, and it was overall a very decent phone. My only issue was that the camera was decent, but not as good as it should have been.

Huawei Mate 40 Pro Pre order Specials

I've been playing with the free stuff that came with the phone. Scale: works decently, as expected. The Freebuds 4i: very nice earphones indeed. Great sound reasonably configurable, and they don't fall out of my ears. Battery life seems good. Integrates very well with the phone. GT 2e watch: as...

    Mate 40 Pro Review

Gspace seems quite nice; it's like a virtual machine that can run Google-dependent apps, and creates an icon for the app. Strava runs perfectly like that, also Flightradar. The Discovery app is super flaky. Repeated login attempts, the Health part keeps prompting for login, etc. Their app...

    Mate 40 Pro Review

Got mine yesterday, did a Phone Clone from my Mate 20 Pro. Apps that do definitely work: most of them, including FNB, Discovery (though that is flakier than usual), Whatsapp, Vivaldi, Nova Launcher, Instagram, Frost (for Facebook), Twitter, Kindle, Waze, Spotify, BlackBerry Hub+, Microsoft apps...

What book are you reading at the moment ?

I just read "Death Becomes Her" by Michael Anderle, first of 21 books in the Kurtherian Gambit series. Reads like clichéd vampire/werewolf/CIA fanfic.
