So after all of this, I just got the phone back "un-repaired" since I rejected the R10,550 fee.
While still standing in the shop, I factory reset the phone.
Fixed.
I have no words.
Insurance != warranty.
I also have it covered by household insurance, though, this weird hardware failure is not covered by it.
