I presume you don't live in the sticks like some of us then?
We don't have the luxuries unfortunately that the city slickers have.
But beyond this, what happens when terrestrial fails, due to load shedding? That is the question you should be asking. Don't for a second think, that comms can't be...
Came across this old nugget. Tell me that the old guard, were open to the new tech...LOL I wouldn't be surprised if they lobbied to make it difficult, because they knew their clock was going to get knocked by the low latency of Starlink and others in the similar game. The only ones that suffer...
They are not truly "Uncapped" with FUP's in place. Also, very high latency, so forget Video conference calls, gaming, etc.
Only good for basic browsing, email, Netflix streaming, etc. No VPN capabilities due to high latency too.
But it works, when the Fibre exchange goes down due to load shedding, which is inevitable as the schedules increase. It would be good to have an alternative, that doesn't rely on terrestrial solutions right?
Not once the internet starts failing via ground and cellphone towers, because of load shedding increasing. Then all options locally become redundant. At least with Starlink, if you power it from alternative energy, you have internet.
I am amazed to see how many "Heck NO, or NOPE" answers there are. Given the "No end in sight" for load shedding, and the fact that the cell providers won't be able to keep up with all tower battery issues, we will reach a point, where comms drop, and people will suffer internet and telephony...
I don't see Starlink coming at all until they do away with BBBEE, which I doubt they would ever, so until then, Starlink refuse to give up a stake of their company for the mos. So they will purely ignore us, as there is more than enough interest around the world, without BS regulations like...
NOPE! Vodascum refuse to activate the eSIM on my Z Flip 3. So I went and got the Fold 4 over the weekend. Back to having 2 separate bleeding SIM cards in the phone again.
So archaic! They love the dominion over all their subjects don't they????
If you can avoid Vodascum, do it. Hope they read...
Go to the apple page. Then to the new iPhone 14. Then to "Tech Specs". Then allllll the way to the bottom, where the fine print is. Item 16.
https://www.apple.com/iphone-14-pro/specs/
Not as per the Apple website:
16. iPhone 14 models are activated with an eSIM and do not support a physical SIM. Use of an eSIM requires a carrier that supports eSIM and a wireless service plan (which may include restrictions on switching service providers and roaming, even after contract...
Vodascum disallowed the eSIM, on the Galaxy Z Flip 3 I got, and refused to activate it. You see the IMEI number, but it is grey. So what should be dual sim, Vodascum limit.
On my Note 20 5G, there are 2 SIM slots, that work fine. So they allow on those with two physical slots, but seem to...
I wonder what Vodacom will be doing, since the new iPhone 14, seems to ONLY have eSIM.
Maybe they will finally catch a wake up, or most likely, being the dinosaur they are, request SIM versions for South Africa. To keep us in the dark ages....
Old thread, but indeed it will be interesting to see, if Vodascum will finally be allowing eSIM since that is all the new iPhone 14 seems to come with.
So what you gonna do Vodascum??? Finally get going????
Sorry. Didn't see this question until now. Nope, no luck. Typical Vodascum, being their usual incompetents. They couldn't be bothered with customer service or support.
