    Possibly linked to the park brake? That was my initial thought. It supposedly uses the new 9 speed auto, so could well be that they changed a few things around, like put it in Neutral and turn on the park brake and it sets it to P?

    That is correct. Older model A3's had fixed paddles, but the current one has them attached to the steering wheel and they are always behind the spokes at 9 and 3. The 1.6 TDI of the Sportsback does not come standard with the paddles sadly, as it falls within the lowest spec level (S). I think...

When you are going to be doing spirited driving, especially cornering at speed, you should be holding the steering wheel at 9 and 3, with your thumbs over the spokes. This puts your hands right...

    No no, if you wanna go granny mode you have to go full circle. The A1 with the 1.4 is a good bit faster due to lower weight and higher power (Polo GTI engine I believe). The 1.6 TDI in the A3 makes a meagre 77kw. But what is happening that upsets you so?

    Was not at the official launch, simply the local dealer offering drives etc. Yep, surprisingly good of a fit actually. No issues with roof height or legs, since the roof comes up nice and high in the front. Can't say I was very comfy in the back seat after switching with my friend though...
