    My Toyota Corolla Cross rant

Did you get a chance to test drive any of those 2, if so what are your thoughts? I'm also considering getting either the 25/26 CC or the Suzuki Across (wife would prefer a Toyota again), but haven't had a chance to do any test drives yet, as I'm still trying to figure out which stealership to go to.

VPN required in country that restricts VPNs.

If you want self hosted, you can try amneziaWG or even run a tailscale, Zerotier or netbird tunnel between yourself and your own VPS and it should. I had a colleague in the same situation and setting up a separate tunnel using either of these options worked flawlessly, as it turns out the...

    DNS optimisation

1.1.1.1 is still there because it's probably what you've set as the bootstrap server, which is used to resolve the DoH and DoT records. Just something to be aware of though, I noticed you are using Quad9, NextDNS and CleanBrowsing, which does malware blocking, but you still have the normal...

What was your first home internet setup?

When I was a Kid, we first had BelTel, with a Telkom provided Minitel style box (a all in one dumb terminal) and can still remember the chat rooms on FROGG, before moving to dial-up using a US Robotics modem. As an adult living on my own, I had to use my phone for tethering for a long time until...

Using Kavita (or other suggestions) to manage a large collection of e-books

I've been using Kavita for comic books and some e-books since the very first version and it works brilliantly. But from my limited experience, e-books in the e-pub format worked perfect so long as it had proper metadata, but I had issues with PDFs, in that they had to be in their own folders...

    Nintendo Switch Game Recommendations?

Some good suggestions so far, Fantasy Life I looks like fun, but it's the same price as Animal Crossing, so which one? To be honest, the more I look at the prices for these games, 2nd hand games are just as expensive for some reason, the more I think I should just get this thing modded and then...

    Nintendo Switch Game Recommendations?

Yeah... that's the problem... none of the 1st party games seem to be worth the price, other than maybe BOTW or TOTK... and the reviews I've seen for the last few Pokemon games seems to be a mixed bag.

    Nintendo Switch Game Recommendations?

Got my self a very cheap Switch Lite, but have no idea what to do with it now. Anyone have any ideas for which game I should get first or where to get some good specials, as I have no idea what's worth getting as I haven't dealt with Nintendo since the Wii days? Was maybe considering getting one...

Please advise should I upgrade from 3600 to 5600xt

Thanks for the tip, now if only I can actually find a 5 series that's in stock for a reasonable price.

Please advise should I upgrade from 3600 to 5600xt

In my opinion, going from almost any 3000 series CPU to a 5000 series CPU (5500 and higher) would be give you a noticeable improvement in performance, but it would also depend on what your workload is. From someone who is currently running a 3700X paired with a RX 7600 GPU, I play every new...

    Vuma Reach Fibre - Mitchell's Plain/Strandfontein

I believe this is one of the reasons why the guys on 100Mbps sometimes get slower browsing than the guys on 40 or 20Mbps, because Vuma has a much higher contention than other areas to keep costs low. For me this was a missed opportunity by Openserve, they already have existing old copper...

    Hisense u7h

Other than size, the only difference I'm aware of is the amount of dimming zones, which is lower on the 55" (112 zones) than on the 65" (160 zones). Otherwise, it's a really good TV and I would recommend maybe waiting for the 65" to come back on special if it's within your price range.

    Skyworth TV settings (Audio)

In my experience, it should just work, I've had it work on both my very old Samsung surround sound and my newer Sony soundbar. However, it also depends on the media you are playing, don't expect 5.1 surround sound if the media only has stereo, unless you have something like virtual surround...

    The Home Improvements Thread (2)

I've just recently moved into a new place and we in the process of remodelling the kitchen. Question for anyone who can assist, where is the plug socket for the dishwasher supposed to go or can it be installed in the cupboard under the sink, as the dishwasher will be installed next to the sink...
