    Just realised - the gateway IP is set to my router IP which is where the local interface comes into play. However - this still means that it is somehow not using the router for DNS queries and still going out to Google DNS....

    The router doesn't allow me to define the interface when adding the static routes so I cant choose it to use a local interface as per the setup document.... which is where my DNS problem probably comes from....
