Ok an update on my issue over the weekend: it turns out that ABSA got it into their heads to suspend my card for suspected fraud.. related to me trying to buy Afrihost data. So they are not dead yet.
Despite all the contradictory info on their own website and elsewhere, the cards will NOT work...
I was trying to buy data online, I kept getting messages about CVV errors. I assumed the problem was with my provider until I tried the use the card in 2 different shops this morning and got declined both times.. But the FAQ on the Virgin Money Card page still says you can use your Mastercard...
As of yesterday, I have had my card declined. And its only when I search myBB, do I find this info. I was NOT informed anything about end of Decmber or 17 January. The email I received from them a while back when I queried, said I could casrry on until the card expired.

As of yesterday, I've noticed issues using my card - getting declined all over. Did a search and found this post. The last communication I had was that my card would work until it expired.
If this is the level of communication form ABSA, then I guess I really don't want to move to them...!

Dairyfarmer - its very miss or hit - sometimes they come through and sometimes not.
I've had friends send test messages - sometimes they arrive from one person and not another.
But in my case (compared to the thread you mentioned) its not really a "delay" - they either come almost immediately...
