It is quite refreshing to see Laurie being open about the issue and willing to speak about the outage. This part did catch my attention though:
I found this claim interesting and took a moment to dig into the data. From what I can see, there doesn’t appear to have been any significant global...
We monitor various networks from our two SmokePing instances (one in Teraco JHB and one in Hetzner Germany). So our data reflects how inbound traffic to Cybersmart’s network looks from our side, not outbound from their end. We could add a US instance, but for now we’re more focused on local and...
I’ve reached out to them via email and WhatsApp, waiting for a human response now.
Our SmokePing over the past 3 hours shows:
100% packet loss from JHB via NapAfrica Johannesburg
0.00% packet loss from Hetzner DE
This is via NapAfrica JHB:
1 cybersmart.ixp.joburg (196.60.8.246) 0.659 ms...
International connectivity looks to have been restored around 1:40 AM, with only about 1-2% packet loss now. But at the same time, we lost local peering to Cybersmart. Since then, it’s been 100% packet loss via NAPAfrica Johannesburg.
Their local routing (at least between JHB and CPT) has mostly been working since around 8/9 AM, with just a few short drops lasting about a minute each.
There was a short window of connectivity between 2:59 AM and 3:21 AM as well, so it does look like they were working on the network overnight...
Their BGP sessions are flapping, which explains the repeated route advertisements. It seems they’re struggling to maintain stable routing.
We have 2 peering sessions with them at NAPAfrica JHB, 1 has been down since the issue started and the other is flapping.
I’d normally suspect a DDoS, but...
Their notices/status page now shows an ETR of 12 hours:
The issue started at 12h40 with around 70% packet loss. Let’s hope they can restore services soon.
Hello @DStvNothingOn
Unfortunately, the registry has significantly increased the pricing for .ZA city domains.
As a result, all providers will need to adjust their pricing for .ZA city gTLDs to reflect these changes.
We’ve also contacted DNS.Business and they’ve confirmed that their pricing...

We've been using AMD EPYC for 2.5 years now, the first few servers in this rack are 1st gen Naples, the rest are Rome based. We're looking at 3rd Gen...
Hello @lived666, I have checked into the issue and it appears the domain is being registered using the legacy Uniform email-based system. The zone is correct on our name servers and there are no issues, however, their system is still sending back an: "ERROR: No valid nameservers found -...
Apologies for the downtime, our network is designed for full redundancy - incidents like this should not occur. We have two core switches, as well as two access switches in each rack where servers are located. These switches are connected using separate fibre pairs. In this case, Teraco...
Unfortunately, Teraco has incorrectly decommissioned 2 redundant fibre connections to one of our racks due to a mistake on their side. This is affecting a large portion of our services. They are currently in the process of reinstalling the fibre cross-connects and services should be online by...
