R4 per litre petrol price blow to South Africa

You definitely wouldn’t have gotten change from R5 filling up a Beetle in the 80s. Maybe change from R50. The VW Beetle’s fuel tank was 40 liters. In the early 80s the fuel price was just under R1 per liter. In 1985 it was at R1 per liter.

Things that irritate you - Part 4

A paring knife or a pair of scissors would have worked very well, you would have had the battery out in less than a minute. And it’s a CR2032 battery. The naming convention comes from the battery having a 20mm diameter and a 3.2 mm thickness. That’s why you can use a CR2016 or CR2025 battery...

R23 billion set to disappear into thin air in a South African city

It seems like that the government's financial systems are set up to support corruption. Where I worked it was almost impossible to spend money in a corrupt manner, except if multiple parties are involved. If I wanted to buy item X, I had to complete a purchase request describing what I need...

    Retirement planning

Thanks, it looks like it's giving more credible results. Although the calculator indicates that I will get only about R37 000 (after tax) upon retirement, whilst I actually am getting ±R45 750 after tax. Maybe I should play around with the assumptions.

    Retirement planning

Unless I am doing something wrong, there's something off with this calculator. I used a hypothetical scenario but was in line with my own situation. When I was 60 years old, I had roughly about R10 500 000 in my pension fund. That would have given me ±R65 000 per month, and ±R44 000 per month...

OMG! Thanks for this invaluable information. Now I can jump in my car, drive form Sasolburg to Pretoria East and surf on the internet in one of those malls. My life will then be complete.
