CGNAT - Carrier Grade NAT or otherwise called Double NAT. It means the ISP, because of the scarcity of IPV4 IP addresses, uses this method of double NATTING to save on the number of IP addresses they need to connect clients to the internet. You can tell if it is enabled on your connection by...
My IP is also now CGNAT'ted. Strangely my speedtests are also not what it is supposed to be. I get full upload speeds, but download is not even close to what it should be. Anywhere from half to a quarter what it is supposed to be. I'll test again later or tomorrow to confirm.
Hi.
Last week I upgraded my service from 500/500 to 1000/500 Afrihost using Metrofibre as network provider.
On the 500/500 service I got speedtest.net results of roughly 520/520, relatively consistently.
On the 1000/500 service I also mostly get about 520/520 which is strange as I would expect...
Liquid Telecom has got 1 fibre pair thus 12Tbps and WIOCC has got 1 fibre pair. Google will probably now fix their South African capacity problem. ie. Youtube and slow Google Drive.
Ok, after a bit of searching. Apparently the main cable trunk is connected to a buoy called the "Southern trunk tail marker buoy". Thus after the ship is finished in Melkbostrand it will cruise north west to the buoy to do the final splice between the Melkbosstrand branch and the main cable...
The ship the "ILE DE SEIN" is at this moment about 2km offshore from Melkbosstrand. So they are still busy with the landing. I'm wondering if this part, the landing, is just the landing branch to Melkbosstrand from the main Equiano cable. I'm wondering if the main cable has yet arrived in South...
I see that the cable laying ship "ILE DE SEIN", which landed Equiano in Namibia, is now close to Melkbosstrand doing subsea operations.... According to Marinetraffic.
Issues here in Northern PTA still not completely solved. We at least have connectivity now, but latency is bad and DL/UL is slow on a 500/500. But I see the notices are still up and I assume they are still busy fixing.
Yes, I'm also in PTA-North area and also experiencing an intermittent connection. I know of another Metrofibre client a few blocks from me with exactly the same problem. The Afrihost website has got a notice on as well as Metrofibres own website.
So your problem is then with the setup on your router. Something wrong with the port forwarding. The port on the outside forwarded to a port on the inside on an internal (private) ip. Something wrong there.
