Samsung S25 R2,500 cheaper than its predecessor

How is it good news? It's basically an increasing trend of Samsung phones becoming more expensive as a proportion of average monthly salary? Anyone else getting tired of most MyBB articles starting with either "good news" or "bad news"?

Xiaomi Mesh Wi-Fi system AC1200 reviewed

I have three of these and what sucks the most is that the two secondary nodes both want to connect to the primary node that is plugged into the ONT. That means you can’t really daisy chain them. I think I had it set up correctly but the middle node lost power and the only way to have them...

The DA's plan for the SABC - sell it

Plough that cash into getting every household at least a 10mb internet connection and just broadcast everything over the internet. The only thing you can do with a tv radio signal is watch tv (crappy tv at that.)

If ESKOM gets its way ALL electricity users will pay new fixed fee per month of R1078.70

Feels like the death spiral will continue. We can't really live without electricity, so we'll either take it from the man and pay whatever we can afford, or go off-grid. The latter is making more and more financial sense as each month passes by.

Eskom is proposing new ways for South Africans to pay for electricity

It just changes the calculus again. If you're paying more for electricity with grid-tied solar, the prospect of paying for more panels and more battery storage might mean you break even or better over 15 years, so there's now a more appealing route to go off-grid completely.

Starlink's ownership requirements uncertainty in South Africa

Why is it a headache for Starlink? It's not like SA is a huge market and they've served every other country in the world already.

    Eskom changing its microgrid targets

If the payback is so good, communities will just set these microgrids up themselves, if government doesn't enact legislation to make that illegal (if it isn't already). I'm definitely for microgrids - hopefully less prone to massive budget over-runs than megaproject coal power stations. But...

An update on the South African electronic rand

Is this because they realized that a digital rand would be as worthless as a paper-based one?

    Is Afrihost currently down?

Down too for me. Started as intermittent connectivity around 19h00, now properly down.

NSFAS, social grants likely to disappear should ANC lose power - Ramaphosa

Haven't seen a single ANC election poster in Cape Town or Bellville yet. The desperation is real.

South Africans love Home Affairs for its effectiveness, says Motsoaledi

To be fair, the service I've received from Home Affairs has consistently been superior to what I've received from WebAfrica and Vodacom.

Retirement savings: Coronation through Old Mutual

Are you sure you aren't being charged a platform fee by Old Mutual to invest in a Coronation Fund? I know that doing something similar via Allan Gray attracts an additional fee of around 0.5% pa.
