Eskom takes back control of Ekurhuleni's load-shedding

The part of 'The Vale' where I live is load shed. (Guess I am unlucky). Went off at 08h00 and should have been back by 10h30, but is still off. Thanx, Ek'sdom. Edit- 11h20 Power now back on

    Ramokgopa admits load-shedding won't stop by end-2023

During the commissioning of Unit 5 last year, an air heater fire caused extensive damage (Therefore not commercial). Therefore, I assume the the units he referred to are U1-3 and U5. I would imagine that presently U6 is being commissioned.

    Portable Power Stations

I wrote to the supplier regarding the App for for the Singo PPS's, as I also couldn't locate it. It's called IEE Portal.

    Portable Power Stations

I only use it to watch TV (100W) when we have load shedding. Therefore, it doesn't have 'heavy' usage on a daily basis. So, in my case it fits the purpose. No, I didn't buy solar panels.

I purchased a Rentech PPS750 from them and in my opinion their service was great. They are based in Roodepoort.

Kusile designs "manipulated" so Hitachi Power Africa could win tender - De Ruyter

A retired Eskom designer offered his thoughts, in an open letter (13/05/2019). The reading is fairly technical if you don't know power plant. I think his closing comment sums it up. https://www.biznews.com/thought-leaders/2019/05/13/eskom-medupi-kusile

60% of Eskom's coal fleet offline, possible stage 11 power cuts by July - Clyde Mallinson

The myth about a power station being built in 18 months, I have never read or heard about. During the 70’s to early 2000’s the following coal fired stations were built: Kriel, Matla, Duvha,Thutuka, Lethabo, Matimba and Majuba. If you correlate all the dates for the stations, you will notice...

Ramaphosa announces national state of disaster over power cuts

Just a correction; Hitachi supplied the boiler, not the turbine.

12 to 24 months to fix Kusile chimney

I didn't follow the Medupi conveyor belt saga, so I can't really comment. But with only one conveyor from the mine, I hope the stockpile levels can be kept within the required parameters. Yes. No 'permanent' chimney was available, so a solution was required to enable the commissioning of units...

12 to 24 months to fix Kusile chimney

I have been retired for close on to two years now (that's why I'm here) and enjoying the 'break' from site life. Regarding the temporary solution, a similar installation was done back in 1981/82 when the second chimney at Matla had to be demolished. Part of the stack had collapsed during...

12 to 24 months to fix Kusile chimney

No, the smoke would not come out of the hole (assuming everything was constructed correctly). Inside the concrete outer structure (wind shield), there are three steel flues dedicated to each unit. Therefore, not a single point of failure. Safety concern as pointed out by @Lupus. Regarding the...

    Portable Power Stations

That's a good 'catch'. I tried everything that I could think of to find out who the OEM is/was. I am retired now, so possibly the mind doesn't think 'out of the box' as well these days.
